Our Sustainability Commitment at Sui Generis

We appreciate that all life on earth is under threat of extinction and believe that reducing the harm to our planet is the greatest challenge we face. Find out what we’re doing to reduce our environmental impact.

Our aim is to be the UK's most sustainable supplier of high-quality GRP composite products, and we are committed to reaching net-zero for our scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2030.

Our Purpose

To provide safe, affordable, sustainable, and attractive GRP products for business and consumer needs.

Our Values

Sustainability

We manage our businesses sustainably. We pay attention to the environmental impact of our activities and continually strive to minimise it. We make decisions that enable our businesses to thrive into the future, including financial stability and innovation to keep serving real needs. We serve the communities we operate in and contribute positively to them.

People

We recognise the necessity of profit for our businesses to survive for the long term, but we value people over profit. This means we respect our team, our customers, and other stakeholders as humans, and always seek to balance our human needs with financial ones. Family, community, and environment are real considerations for how we run our businesses, as are compassion and respect.

Integrity

We value integrity in all its guises. We do what we say we’re going to do. We’re fair to everyone we deal with - employees, customers, suppliers, community, and our industry - and operate from a deep sense of fair play. We do the right thing by our team and our clients rather than the easy or most profitable thing.

Enjoyment

We recognise that work is a significant part of our employees’ lives and create environments and cultures that are enjoyable to work in, and which aren’t oppressive or demeaning. We give those employees who want to grow real opportunities to do so.

Milbank Group Pledge

Whilst we are part of a group of businesses that by their very existence are harmful to the environment, we believe that we can, under our custodianship, not only make a big difference to our impact but hopefully influence others to do the same.

We pledge to use the resources we have – our business, our voice, and our imaginations – to do something about it.

Our guiding principles will be:

  • • Reduce our environmental impact
  • • Balance decisions with understanding environmental and social impacts of our choices
  • • Collaborate with our customers, suppliers, competitors, and other key stakeholders to reduce their environmental impact
  • • Reduce health and safety risks
  • • Support our communities to survive and thrive
  • • Act with integrity by respecting people and human rights
  • • Report transparently and honestly

Managing Director's Sustainability Commitment

James Luckham, Managing Director Sui Generis International.

“We are a family-owned company, and our people are the foundation that underpins our success. We strive to create an environment where individuals, teams, and families can truly flourish; all in a spirit of co-operation based firmly on fairness and respect."

"We believe this builds mutual relationships that go the distance and cultivates long lasting relationships built on transparency, confidence, and unshakable trust, both internally and within our wider communities.”

“Acting sustainably is a core priority and to us this means shaping the future responsibly by ensuring we fully consider the ‘long term’ ramifications of our actions, decisions, and general business activities."

Our aim is to achieve a status whereby ‘every day’ business impacts only positively on our people, community, and environment. This calls for the sparing use of economic resources, proactive research into improved materials and manufacturing processes, and a firm commitment to improving our environment.”

What have we done so far?

  • Switched to using rPET recycled plastic bottle resin to manufacture our products, reducing carbon emissions by over 45%
  • Installed sensor-activated LED lighting
  • Adopted electric or hybrid vehicles where possible, including both staff and operational machinery
  • Invested in new equipment, creating opportunities for new jobs and reducing our requirement for carbon-heavy imports from China
  • Sponsored a local football team, Brooklands FC
  • Donated products to local authorities, schools, the NHS, as well as individuals in need

Our plans moving forward

  • Research and develop the use of alternative sustainable materials as we strive to deliver products that are 100% recyclable by 2030 (exploring solar panel installation at this current time)
  • To consume energy supplied entirely from renewable sources
  • To reduce our overall carbon footprint to net zero by 2030.
