Case Study: GRP Cab Roofs for Luton Transits

The vehicle component problem

What can you do if your current GRP mould manufacturer goes into liquidation?

This was the question that faced a well known coach builder for Ford’s commercial vehicles. They needed a stable, reputable and dependable GRP company that could pick up the production of their Luton cab roofs quickly.

Sui Generis were chosen because we met that criteria. We not only started production quickly but within one month we had taken an objective view of the tooling we had inherited from the bankrupt company.

The solution – improved design

We decided we could improve the quality dramatically by producing from a single split mould, thus making a seamless unit rather than incorporating an ugly rubber gasket in the highly visible joint around the white roof.

Versatile GRP vehicle mouldings

Whilst we were unable to hold to the price the previous company were charging, as we didn’t want to follow them into obscurity, we were able to agree on a competitive deal that meant our client was getting a much better moulding with the assurance of long term reliable supply of cab roofs for their Luton transits.

High quality assurance standards

Our client works to the high quality assurance standards typical of the automobile industry and we are proud to say that we have matched these with our production.

At Sui Generis we are not content to simply take on a project blindly but we are always looking for innovative ways to improve on quality, aesthetics and cost effectiveness to the benefit of our clients.
