Creating a new seating design

Creating an amphitheatre in the centre of a playground has proved the ideal space for learning, play and bringing everyone together.

The GeoMet team worked in partnership with leading landscape architects, BD Landscape to create a new patented seating design. The development phase took two years from drawing board to factory floor and the finished ‘Arena’ seat is revolutionary thanks to its modular and flexible design.

The first application of this innovative design was at Emmanuel Church of England School in West Hampstead, London, where the modular seating was used to create a stunning amphitheatre.

GeoMet: stylish seating collections designed for the pressures of contemporary living

Designed for commercial and residential use, either indoors or outside; the GeoMet range offers an alternative to traditional timber, aluminium, PVE and plastic furniture.

Available in a wide range of colours and environmentally friendly, GeoMet is also exceptionally durable, weatherproof and vandal resistant, so requires minimal maintenance whilst offering maximum visual impact.

The creation of an amphitheatre

Loved by the ancient Greeks, an amphitheatre offers a wonderful meeting place: it’s ideal for innovative learning experiences, school plays, discussions, and to get the entire school or local community together for open days.

Sitting in the round brings everyone together and allows children to engage in a fun way, rather than in a formal classroom setting.

BD Architects put together an array of colour to give the amphitheatre impact and to ensure the children saw the area as a fun space.

An award winning design that’s turned heads

Following installation in 2013 the amphitheatre has turned heads and inspired hundreds of children along the way. Recently it has been shortlisted for the prestigious Landscape Institute Awards and was showcased as an innovative design by leading industry body, Learning Through Landscape.

The amphitheatre has also stood up to the rigours of school life and the external elements and still looks as good today as it did on day one.

We couldn’t have done this without you

Rob Beswick, BD Landscape Architects, says:

“The seating was manufactured by Sui Generis, the leading bespoke composite moulding manufacturer in the UK. We haven’t found anyone else who can do what they do – thanks for helping to bring our designs off of the drawing board and into production.”
