Specialist Coatings

Specialist Coatings
This work is carried out by fully trained and highly experienced personnel using state of the art equipment. Coatings available are wide and varied and suitable for vessels containing potable water, chemical resistance, abrasive environments, decorative applications etc. Thickness and spark testing are standard procedures where appropriate.
Hydro Prep have no allegiance to any one coating supplier, hence by combining our expertise of application and the client knowledge of location and environment we ensure specification of the most suitable products for each and every project.
Selection of the application system is an important aspect to our scope of supply. Offering one or a combination of spraying systems such as conventional, airless, electric and plural along with rollers and brushes as further options, most tasks can be carried out within the manufacturers preferred method of application. We are approved applicators for a number of well-known coating manufacturers and have valuable technical back up at our disposal.

Intumescent (fire protective) Coatings
This specialised industry is highly regulated and it’s important to use contractors that are experienced. We have worked on major projects with the full approval of the coating manufacturers themselves to ensure the appropriate level of fire protection for all kinds of buildings. Over time this has taken on increasing importance particularly in refurbishment projects.
Cladding refurbishment
This is available using effective systems which offer long term weather protection. Flaking coatings not only look unsightly but expose the cladding to the elements. Deterioration is normally rapid and irreversible breakdown will lead to replacement cladding. Our effective systems have been field tested over many years with extensive success. All British Standard colours are available, thus corporate identity can be maintained or created.
- Case Study
St. Pancras Station

Converting St Pancras Station into a cross channel rail link is a project with a multi-billion pound price tag. HydroPrep were entrusted with surface preparation and coating of the Victorian iron work. This is perhaps one of the largest and most challenging projects we will ever have to face. St Pancras has the largest single span roof of its kind in the world and building work was completed in 1864. English Heritage has labelled the ironwork as “the finest of examples” and is a grade 1 listed structure, and as such our work was subject to the strictest disciplines of quality control and Health and Safety requirements.

The contract value for HydroPrep amounted to over ten million pounds. Being awarded this work really was an endorsement of trust and confidence in our ability to carry out preparation work on a highly valued and important feature of London’s heritage.

At times there were over sixty other contractors on site so programme schedules were critical and interface with other trades required both diplomacy and speed of operation. The work included confined space activity and lead paint removal, requiring the most stringent decontamination procedures as well as complicated high access issues.
