Health & Safety

We treat the safety of our employees and those affected by our work with the highest priority, as you will note from our Health & Safety Policy Statement.

Our work takes us into many ‘high risk’ areas such as railway installations, nuclear power plants, chemical factories, construction sites and so forth. We are regularly assessed by third parties and have been highly rated for our adherence to safe working practices.

To enable us to work on railway stations, both mainline and underground, our operatives and management had to undergo specific Health & Safety training and as a company we have qualified to the very high standard needed to be approved under the ‘Link Up’ scheme.

Risk Assessments are an integral part of our Health & Safety process. They are produced by experienced trained, safety conscious managers. The assessments include working in confined spaces and working with hazardous materials like lead paint removal.

 

Health & Safety Case Study

New Saw For Safetread Factory

When investing in a new saw for cutting our GRP / Fibreglass grating it was essential that it not only gave improved performance, thus reducing working times and therefore costs to our customers, but that it improved our health and safety and the working life of our employees.

A fully automated saw was chosen to reduce worker fatigue and ensure tighter tolerances. A special lifting clamp was also commissioned to be fitted to an overhead hoist to eliminate any manual handling issues that remained and of course our existing extraction system was re-fitted. Once commissioned new LEV tests were carried out to ensure the existing extraction was fit for purpose and staff were retrained in the use of the new equipment. We are pleased to report that the equipment has surpassed our every expectation in all the areas we wished to address.
